The GBEA Careers in Education Scholarship is now open for applications due by April 15th, 2016

Hello everyone, this is just a friendly reminder to please take a few minutes and complete the TELL survey for your school.  Earlier this month you should have been given a special code, if you lost it you can go online to the TELL website and request a new code so you can complete the survey.

Please recall that this information is used not only by districts but also by local associations like the GBEA and OEA when discussing the future of education and how best to solve "hot button" issues in our schools.  This is your opportunity to tell not only our district, but the entire state, what you think about the state of education in your classrooms every day.  Unless we get a larger participation from teachers (it's based on a percentage) then our data will not be released as an individual district.  Additionally, you can see your school and it's participation rate.  Some buildings need an increase in participation otherwise your building's data will not be available for later analysis and discussion.  The minimum rate needed is 50% from each school.

To learn more about the TELL Oregon survey, or to see current participation rates by school and district, go to:

Thank you for letting your voice be heard! THE DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO MARCH 10

MODA Insurance Update

The Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) issued an Order of Immediate Supervision to Moda Health, which gives the department the ability to oversee and approve all financial decisions the company makes.

Additionally, DCBS has ordered Moda to transfer its individual market insurance plans to a different insurance carrier.  This means people insured directly with Moda through individual plans purchased on the individual market through the Oregon health insurance exchange will have their insurance provided by a carrier other than Moda.

Currently, this has no impact on group health plans or plans provided through the Oregon Educator Benefit Board (OEBB).

OEA staff is working to ensure we thoroughly understand the ramifications of this action, but want to assure you that there is no impact to the health plans provided by OEBB or OEA.

I’ve provided some sample Q&A below that has been provided by DCBS regarding this action.

We will keep you in the loop as this develops, but wanted to make sure you had up to date and accurate information as you hear news about this issue.

Thank you,

Hanna Vaandering
Oregon Education Association

Oregon has the lowest corporate taxes in the country.

Hard-working Oregonians are paying their taxes, but out-of-state corporations aren't paying theirs.

It's time for corporations to pay their fair share.
